Our Acts of Kindness List

Act Six- April 24th, 2010

Organization: Tacoma Atheists

Act of Kindness: We took a morning to help clean up Ruston Way waterfront as part of Parks Appreciation Day.

Act Five- May 7th, 2010

Organization: Tacoma Community House

Act of Kindness: Tacoma Community House‘s staff decided to participate in our campaign called 100 Acts of Kindness. Our Act of Kindness took place at a food bank called My Sister's Pantry. TCH's staff worked hard and quickly to put together food packets for children to take home over the weekend so they have food to eat when they are not in school. It was an amazing experience.

Act Four- March 23rd, 2010

Organization: Print NW

Act of Kindness: We volunteered at NW Furniture Bank here in Tacoma. We wanted to see more of what they were about as a special nonprofit we'd heard about in our community, and were able to help out by building furniture that they donate and helping make furniture deliveries... It was a great way to spend a Saturday!

Act Three- March 3rd, 2010

Organization: Interlake Child Care and Learning Center

Act of Kindness: After discussing the meaning of kindness, my preschool class decided by vote that they wanted to make 100 hearts and send it to TCH in the mail with a letter. They worked hard together to draw and cut out the hearts and count to 100! The letter is in the words of the children themselves. It states: "These are hearts. There are 100. We made 100 hearts to be kind and safe. A heart is a symbol to show love. This heart will make the heart inside your body have love."

-Lucy Okeefe, Interlake teacher

100 Acts of Kindness

Act Two- February 28th, 2010

Organization: Gig Harbor United Methodist Women

Act of Kindness: Gig Harbor United Methodist Women decided to make dresses out of pillow cases for young girls in Haiti. Their original goal was to make 50 dresses, but with the help of over 60 community members, they have made 173 dresses and that number continues to increase.

Act One- November 29th, 2009
Thank you
, Dr. Ana M. Sierra, for committing our very first act of kindness.

Organization: Namaste Child & Family Center

Act of Kindness: I remember the excitement when I received an Advent or Christmas Calendar for the first time as a child. My family is an immigrant family and we were unfamiliar with this tradition. What fun to search for the date, open the little window, see the picture, and eat a chocolate. Yesterday, I passed on the excitement and delivered 4 Advent calendars to little immigrant friends of mine.

Imagine. Act. Share.

As a part of our Centennial Celebration we are launching a campaign called 100 Acts of Kindness which honors TCH’s service to the community, and engages others in service. Kindness has the ability to transform people, places, and communities, and this principle is one of Tacoma Community House’s enduring values. Tacoma Community House has a legacy of compassionate service, and we feel that the best way to share this legacy during our 100th anniversary celebration is to have the community experience the acts of giving and receiving kindness.

We are asking you to join us in celebrating this legacy by committing your organization or congregation to completing an act of kindness next year. To participate we ask that you commit an act of kindness between January and December 2010.

Once you have completed your act of kindness we ask that you complete the online form found to the left. We will gather all the acts of kindness and post them on our website.
