Meet Our MC:

Our MC sweet pea

"sweet pea once lost innumerable points in Scrabble because he absolutely needed to use the word “ichor” and nothing else would do.  sweet pea is a bookseller at King’s Books in Tacoma where he coordinates Word Nerd events such as the annual Spelling Bee and SPITting (Smartest Person In Tacoma) Contest.  He also coordinates the Banned Book Club and Board Game Geekfest at Tempest Lounge.  In his spare time he studies kung fu and is a roller derby mascot."

Get your Scrabble Rousers: Season Deux year long line up here.

TCH presents Scrabble Rousers: Season Deux, an amazing lineup of nontraditional and themed Scrabble tournaments for players of all levels to gather and celebrate words. Through community partnerships with King’s Books, University of Puget Sound (UPS) Office of Community Engagement, the Washington State History Museum, and Click! Cable TV, TCH is offering Scrabble Rousers monthly from February to September throughout Tacoma.

Each tournament will have an individual theme like Alfred Hitchcock Day, Murder Mystery, and the wildly popular International Talk like a Pirate Day. The next couple of months include two exciting tournaments.  The first, Alfred Hitchcock-themed tournament, complete with crows and creepy music, will be held on March 12th at the UPS Rotunda. The second is a Murder Mystery themed tournament to be held on April 22nd at King’s Books.  Both events run 6:30pm-9:30pm. Prizes and bragging rights will be available for the night’s winners.

TCH  has been an advocate for education and words since January 10th 1910. Scrabble Rousers is one of the ways TCH honors and celebrates 100 years of service to the community. The entrance fee is only $10 and all Scrabble Rouser proceeds benefit Tacoma Community House’s Student Scholarship Fund, a scholarship awarded by a student-run committee that helps students transition from TCH to other educational institutions and programs.
